Oakland Tribune: Same-sex marriage advocates celebrate in Oakland
OAKLAND -- Spirits were high in Oakland on Thursday, a day after a judge overturned California's ban on same-sex marriage. Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan called it a moment of justice and liberation. "This is a great day. This is a day to celebrate," she told a crowd gathered at the headquarters of Oakland Pride, a gay community organization. The nonprofit is organizing an Oakland Pride celebration for Sept. 5. The event was held in Oakland for close to a decade but ended in 2004.
