An analysis by the Urban Institute of U.S. Census 2000 showed that Oakland has the third-highest concentration of gays and lesbians among the 50 largest U.S. cities, behind San Francisco and Seattle, with more lesbian couple households per capita than San Francisco. Oakland is the largest city in Alameda county and is the ONLY Pride celebration in the East Bay in 2010. Your sponsorship therefore serves not just Oakland, but the greater metropolitan area including, but not limited to, Alameda, Berkeley, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Piedmont and Walnut Creek.

OAKLAND PRIDE, a non-profit organization, celebrates our LGBT community at our annual PRIDE event. Oakland Pride supports the efforts to establish an All-Inclusive Oakland LGBT Community Center for the first time in Oakland's history. Our community center will serve gay youth, elders, families, friends, and any members of our community that need a home. Our community proudly includes students and professionals from all over the world, representing every profession and demographic. Indeed, outside of Long Beach, Oakland is considered the most culturally diverse population in the nation.
